  1. Lead is a highly malleable, very soft, and ductile metal. It is used in
  2. alloys such as pewter and in electrical solder. Lead was used in ancient
  3. Roman plumbing systems, and even as recently as earlier this century,
  4. although it was phased out due to toxicity. Lead was also used in some
  5. paints, and used to be used as an anti-knock additive in gasoline. Lead
  6. is the final decay product of many heavy radioactive elements.
